Generic Valium
Valium, also known as Diapezam is a medication, sold on prescription at local and online pharmacies, that is commonly used to treat mental disorders such as anxiety, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, muscle spasms, and seizures. It is part of a popular category of drugs known as benzodiazepines.
Valium is currently still manufactured by Roche Products, Inc. However, it is now off patent and it is available in its generic version everywhere in the world. Generic Valium is produced by the following pharmaceutical companies: Apotheca; Barr Laboratories; Baxter Healthcare Corp; Hospira; Ivax Pharmaceuticals; Mylan Pharmaceuticals; Parenta Pharmaceuticals; Qualitest Pharmaceuticals; Roxane Laboratories; Watson Pharmaceuticals.
Generic Valium tablets are available in the following doses: Diazepam 2 mg, Diazepam 5 mg, Diazepam 10 mg. It can also be bought as an oral liquid as well as in the form of an injection.
Generic versions of seven prescription drugs, including four of the top 10 drugs, were approved since enactment of the Drug Price Competition and patent Term Restoration Act in September 1984. The act simplified and speeded the approval of generic versions of already marketed drugs that are no longer protected by patents.
Like most generic medication, generic Valium went through certain tests that consist mostly of comparing them the to brand medication. Afterwards, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) goes through the results of the tests to decide if their quality is equal or close to that of the original product and then rates them. All generic diazepam drugs have a rating of "AB" and "AP" rating. This means that the FDA has judged them as equivalent to the original Valium.
However, there is a difference between generic Valium and brand Valium. Generic medications are allowed to contain inactive ingredients that were not present in the brand-name versions. These inactive ingredients consist mostly of dyes, fillers and a number of other ingredients that may cause allergic problems and additional side effects.
